Claire Osgood Decluttering Guide

Claire Osgood spent four years unable to open a box. It was in the spare room, it contained her mother’s things, and she walked past it every day telling herself she would deal with it at the weekend. She owned three books about decluttering. She knew exactly what she was supposed to do.

That gap — between knowing and being able — became the subject of her writing. Her work sits at the intersection of behavioural psychology, grief, and the extremely ordinary business of a house with too much in it. She is not a professional organizer and does not have a method to sell you, which she considers a qualification rather than a gap.

Claire’s books start from a single premise: if the problem were really storage, you would have solved it years ago. What actually holds people in place is the fear of making a wrong decision, the guilt of waste, the money already spent, and the objects standing in for people and versions of ourselves we haven’t finished grieving.

The Letting Go Series is the result: eight books covering why you can’t let go, how to start when you’re stuck, sentimental things, overwhelm, digital clutter, downsizing, living with less, and keeping it clear. Claire writes and publishes independently.
